Crockpot Hot Chocolate, Dairy Free

Dairy free hot chocolate bar that make the prefect Christmas Eve tradition.

Christmas is like the epicenter for food bloggers. It is like the most wonderful time of the year to cook. I get that. However, I still have two little kids and things are crazy. This is a super easy, fun way to spend Christmas Eve, you can make it ahead of time and not have to mess with it when it comes time to serve. I am not going to go nuts spending hours in the kitchen missing all the fun.

I do however want some really special traditions that my family loves. This is one of those, a special, but totally easy tradition. We do this every Christmas Eve…. go to church, come home and have dinner, and turn on Polar Express. While we watch we sip on hot chocolate and cuddle by the fire. Just the best.

Hot chocolate bar for the prefect Christmas tradition. It is dairy free and gluten free.

This recipe is: dairy free, gluten free, refined sugar free, crock pot, and Paleo.

Dairy Free Dark Hot Chocolate

  • 1/4 cup cacao powder

  • 2 bars of dark chocolate 3 oz bar (72% or above, I use this - from my grocery store)

  • 3/4 cup honey

  • 1 can full fat coconut milk

  • 6 cups of unsweetened almond milk (Want to try homemade?)

How to Make it:

  1. Put everything into a crock pot. Use a whisk to combine the cacao powder.

  2. Put on low heat until well combined and chocolate is melted. About an hour.

Toppings & Add-ins

This is what makes the whole night extra fun and special… all the toppings! Here is a list of what I generally include:

  • Red Hots

  • Cinnamon Sticks

  • Andes Mints

  • Chocolate chips

  • Mini candy canes

  • Whip cream

Making it Extra Special

I love a good cup of hot chocolate, but I also love wowing a guest. Homemade marshmallows will wow a guest. For one they taste WAY better, WAY better (did I saw that twice) than the stuff that you get at the store. They are pretty fun to make too. This is the recipe I use.

I also love to do some cookies to go along with the the hot chocolate. One of the easiest and tastiest things I have found is these Rolo pretzels. All you do is grab a bag of gluten free pretzels and a bag of Rolos. Set those Rolos on top of those pretzels and melt in the oven on a very low heat. This is something that kids can definitely help with.
